PANJIM: The hide and seek game between the prime accused in overseas job scandal, Nilesh Raikar, and the Goa Police ended on Friday when the former surrendered before the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) sleuths, nearly 14 days after he went absconding with his
two accomplices.
The Margao resident approached the police through a phone call informing them of his intention to surrender on Friday. The two co-accused, his wife Neelina and mother Rekha, are expected to surrender soon.
“He was hiding in Shiroda-Ponda fearing the investors would attack him. He was absconding since April 8,” PI Shivram Vaigankar, investigating the case, told Herald.
The EOC had issued a look out circular against the trio for cheating hundreds of youth to the tune of Rs 50 crore. The investigation team has so far received over 400 complaints till date, based on which the accused have been charged under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code.
The family operated the money exchange firm Kamakshi Forex Pvt Ltd at Margao through which they allegedly duped job seekers on the pretext of offering high salaried jobs.
It is learnt that Raikar would invest the funds collected from the seamen in the IPL betting.
