MARGAO: Following a meeting between the chief minister and Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado, around 200 people including victims of the Kamakashi Forex scam held a meeting at Grace Church Hall, Margao, on Wednesday.
Earlier, Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) President Dixon Vaz, MLA Furtado along with affected people met Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar at the assembly complex in Povorim to get the latest update on the Kamakashi Forex scam and questioned why the accused has not been arrested yet.
“The chief minister told us that the police are doing their best and all the details cannot be made public; the chief minister confirmed that the accused is in India and has not travelled to other countries,” Dixon said.
According to Dixon, the delegation requested the chief minister to treat the case as a major scam and nab the accused as soon as possible.  The victims, Dixon said, also demanded that once the accused is caught, he has to meet them as “he is answerable to them.”
The chief minister reportedly assured to update the Navelim MLA on a daily basis and that the people could get the information from the Salcete minister.
Later, around 200 people attended the meeting at Grace Church hall to discuss the latest developments.
At the meeting, Dixon reiterated the importance of creating a seafarer cell as he stated this would help the seafarers and their families in difficult times.
“At the moment we are all running from pillar to post. Since the seafarers are the back bone of Goa’s economy, the government must safeguard our interest.  I requested all the seafarers and their families around Goa to support this issue of forming a seafarer cell and not only of the affected people,” Dixon said.
