PANJIM: Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat appeared before the Special Judge under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the Electricity Department scam of the year 2000 as he was holding the Power portfolio under the BJP-led coalition then.
The court is hearing a case on a complaint filed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar that alleged misappropriation and corruption at the time of purchasing stores in the department. Later Kamat joined the Congress.
Parrikar’s complaint to Kamat, which had named some electricity department officials for manipulating the purchasing store in connivance with suppliers, was then forwarded to the Crime Branch for investigation.
He had alleged that records were manipulated which resulted in loss of lakh of rupees to the government exchequer.
Sources said Kamat appeared as a witness in the case, he being the former minister.
