BELGAUM: Karnataka Government will observe two-day Kadambotsava at Halshi, a hamlet that is set amid the lush greenery of Western Ghats about 14 kms from Khanapur on the Khanapur Yellapur state highway.
The festival will be inaugurated on February 12 at 4 pm. Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram and Khanapur MLA Arvind Patil have urged people of Goa to visit the festival, which was the second capital of the Kadambas.
“Kadamba Kings, who ruled Karnataka and Goa, have not only ruled with dignity but have left a legacy behind in the form of temples that stand intact even today and are acclaimed as architectural marvel even today,” DC Jayram said addressing a news conference on Belgaum on Monday.
“On behalf of the people of Belgaum district, I appeal people of Goa to visit Halsi during the two-day festival and express their solidarity,” he added.
The Kadambas were known for their own style of temple building. The dynasty was founded by Mayura Sharma in about 4th Century AD. Five temples that were constructed here stand as the memoir of Kadamba rule.
Minister for Art and Culture Umashree will inaugurate the festival. Special cultural programmes, seminars, symposiums and a sound and light and light show highlighting history of Kadambas will be depicted during the two-day festival.
Khanapur MLA Arvind Patil, who was also present during the news conference, also urged people of Goa to take part in the festival.
“People of Khanapur taluka and Goa share special relationship. A large number of Goans visit the miraculous cross atop Nandgad Hill. I also urge them to visit Halsi that lies about 2 kms from Nandgad village,” MLA Patil urged.
