PANJIM: Konkani Bhasha Mandal on Sunday evening gave away the prizes and awards to various winners of the different competitions or programmes that were held throughout 2020. This programme is usually held on September 30, but it could not be held due to the lockdown and hence held on Sunday.
The award for best service to Konkani was presented to Harishchandra Narvekar while Dr Prakash Vazrikar bagged the Serafino Cota and Felicio Cardoso memorial award for best teacher and Nityanand Naik won the Jose Piedade Cardoso memorial award for best member of the mandal.
Jose Salvador Fernandes was presented the Ligorio Furtado Trust award for journalism while the Chandrakant Keni memorial award for essay writing went to Ulhas Naik. Manikrao Ram Prabhu Gaunekar won the award for the best translation while Anthony Varkur was presented the Narcinv Damodar Naik award for literature.
Shailendra Mehta was presented the Roque Barreto Memorial award for literature for his book of poetry collection while the award for literature in best tiatr was presented to Mario Menezes and Dr Naina Adarkar bagged the Maya Sardessai memorial award for child literature.
The Mandal also felicitated 53 teachers of Konkani for their dedicated and selfless service and award were also presented to the winners of the various competitions held throughout the year like the competition for child literature, lyrics writing.
Students scoring highest marks at different levels were also felicitated with no one getting the privilege at the BA in Konkani level while three students shared the award for highest marks at both the SSC and HSSC examinations. Deepraj Satardekar won the award for getting the highest marks in MA in Konkani.
