Church-going Goans, especially in South Goa, listen patiently and carefully to messages being conveyed from the pulpits. These are guides to life and living. During election time, these guidance-filled messages are given regularly to help Goans exercise their rights and choices. It’s a responsibility that the Church carries out towards the community. Directions on which party to vote for are never given.
According to reports from different Churches and monasteries in Goa, on the eve of polling day, Churches reiterated their message of supporting good clean candidates, those who always serve and are available. More importantly, it asked people not to vote for defectors and (political) betrayers.
The message that went out across parishes was clear. Vote for clean, upright, and honest candidates. Priests asked people to vote for those who will not steal their vote and bring about governance which will make peace, harmony, and unification of people as its primary objectives.
