MARGAO: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa unit, at a rally in Quepem, announced that the party’s national secretary and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would be in Goa by mid-April to address two big public meetings.
Supported by local volunteers, a team of AAP State leaders and constituency coordinators from across Goa converged at the crowded Quepem market just as the sun was setting and held door-to-door meetings with people.
Volunteers backed by local citizens visited every shop and establishment in the Quepem market and distributed pamphlets describing the party’s ideology and the performance of the AAP government in Delhi. Simultaneously, a corner meeting was held right outside the fish market, where around 100 people listened to AAP Goa leaders, including Valmiki Naik, Olencio Simoes, Ernesto Morais, Sandesh Telekar and Shekhar Vast.
Many people made a beeline for the trademark AAP topis as well as the pamphlets. Many citizens asked several questions, which were answered by the leaders, and thereafter they opted to become volunteers and take up the work of the party in the constituency.
Another corner meeting was held outside the Quepem police station, where local youth expressed frustration with the current political scenario. The youth vouched their support to AAP and have planned to hold awareness meetings in other villages of the constituency from Sunday.
The Quepem meetings were a follow-up of the smaller meetings with stakeholders from the constituency during the last two months.
AAP, which is preparing to contest the upcoming Assembly elections, has so far targeted Saligao, Aldona, Canacona, Vasco, Sanquelim and Benaulim, where it held its first public meeting.
