Key accused in Calangute murder arrested

MAPUSA: Calangute police arrested Joseph Ismail Sequeira, 25, the main accused in the Tyron Nazareth murder case along with two associates Ceon Sebestian Fernandes and Mahesh Ramesh Rampal in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at Anmod Ghat, Mollem.

MAPUSA: Calangute police arrested Joseph Ismail Sequeira, 25, the main accused  in the Tyron Nazareth murder case along with two associates Ceon Sebestian Fernandes and Mahesh Ramesh Rampal in the wee hours of Tuesday morning at Anmod Ghat, Mollem. 
Investigation officer PI Jivba Dalvi received information that the accused were in Bagalkot, Karnataka and likely to return to Goa by a local bus on June 26 to collect cash and leave the country. 
Police decision to maintain surveillance on the family and friends of the accused paid dividends and helped trace Joseph and his associates. 
The vital information was collected after the PI traced the call of the main accused to the person who was supposed to give him money. Police also detained the person in question in this regard and accordingly a team headed by two PSIs was deployed at Chorla Ghat and at Anmod Ghat, Mollem to nab the unsuspecting accused.  
To ensure that the accused did not evade arrest, the staff was briefed thoroughly and photographs of the accused circulated to ensure that all incoming buses were checked. Police began the exercise at 9 pm on June 26 and succeeded in apprehending them in a state transport bus at 4.30 am on Tuesday morning at Anmod Ghat, Mollem. 
Perhaps surprised at seeing the police entering the bus at the wee hours of the morning, Joseph attempted to escape and made a dash towards the jungle, but was overpowered by the alert sleuths. His accomplices were also nabbed.
Later, during interrogation, Joseph confessed that he had stabbed Tyron as he was seething with revenge for the attack by the latter in May. Police also recovered a sword used by Joseph to stab Tyron along with Joseph’s clothes and an Activa bike. 
The operation was supervised by SP North Kartik Kashyap, and SDPO Serafin Dias.
