PANJIM: Mandre College of Commerce, Economics & Management has questioned the wisdom of the Laxmikant Parsekar-led coalition government to involve Goa University (GU) in imposing a clause over its affiliation.
Ramakant Khalap, Chairman of NGO Vikas Parishad, that runs the institution in Mandrem, accused the government of making desperate attempts to shut the college.
“Neither the govt nor GU issued the college management any show cause notice over the issue of its affiliation. Moreover, since GU is an autonomous body and deals with the administrative section, there was no reason for the govt to write to the GU on this issue,” Khalap told Herald.
At a meeting last week, GU’s Academic Council decided that the college’s affiliation from the 2016-17 academic year, will be subject to NOC from the government. Khalap now demands that the government withdraw the condition of the NOC and give them grants. The NGO has resolved to write to the GU Teachers’ Association to raise the matter with the varsity as well as the government. “NOC is given at the time when an institution is newly launched. It does not require renewals or fresh NOCs thereafter. I don’t understand why the government is so unjust to us,” the former Union Law minister said.
While the issue continues to be on the boil, Khalap launched a 12-day agitation on Tuesday ‘to apprise the villagers of Mandrem about the existence of the college’.
