Khaunte arrested, released on bail for threatening BJP spokesperson

Mapusa: Police arrested Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte for allegedly threatening state BJP spokesperson Premanand Mhambrey at the State Legislative Assembly premise.
Khaunte was later released on conditional bail of personal bond of Rs 5,000.
Sources claimed that Mhambrey also submitted a complaint to the Assembly Speaker Rajesh Patnekar.
Porvorim police sources confirmed that Khaunte was arrested after the Porvorim police approached Patnekar as the Speaker’s permission was required as the assembly session is in progress.
Police in their submission to the Speaker pointed out that Khaunte is an influential person and an elected representative, while the complainant is the spokesperson of a political party and this might lead to further trouble.
Porvorim police arrested Khaunte under Section 341 (wrongful restrainment) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of Indian Penal Code.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday, Mhambrey while addressing a press conference had allegeded that Khaunte was involved in several illegalities like land scam etc. However later, in the evening, Mhambrey alleged that when Khaunte and he were present at Goa Legislative Assembly premises, Khaunte threatened him as he was allegedly frustrated over the statements made against him during press conference, said Mhambrey.
