PANJIM: Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte, Independent MLA of Porvorim, swept the two panchayats in his constituency with a tally of 19-1. Khaunte’s panel won 11-0 in Soccorro panchayat while it wrested power with 8-1 win in Salvador do Mundo.
Khaunte, who had defeated BJP’s Guruprasad Pawaskar in the Assembly elections, was elated with the verdict and said it proves his acceptability in the constituency. “The people have reposed their faith in the developments that we have taken up in the constituency which is transforming Porvorim into a model town,” he said.
He added that the verdict proves that people know what they want. “Our panchayats will work toward giving transparent governance and bring sustainable development,” he said.
Just a couple of months ago there was a social media campaign running against Khaunte for supporting the BJP-led coalition government in the State. “The verdict proves that people are backing my decision,” Khaunte said.
