PANJIM: Independent Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has demanded reconsideration of the proposal of Smart City. Addressing press conference in Panjim on Wednesday, Khaunte appealed to government to include Taleigao, Kadamba Plateau and Porvorim in Smart City project funded by the Central government.
“Panjim has outgrown, we have to concentrate on areas where there is an actual need; people from Panjim have started migrating to Taleigao, Kadamba Plateau and Porvorim,” Khanute said.
Most of these three areas are reflected in the urban census and these three areas should be considered in the Smart City project. Khanute also said that the State assembly, secretariat and most of the government offices are in Porvorim, as such it should get the urban status.
He faulted the government for not amending the Goa Panchayat Raj Act to bring it in sync with new developments. “The Act should be amended to classify panchayat areas into urban and rural,” Khaunte said.
He also urged the government to prevent selling of orchard land at throwaway price to migrants.
