PONDA: Officers from the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC), Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and Ponda Police conducted a joint raid at several kiosks located around educational institutions on Friday afternoon, following reports that banned tobacco products and even drugs were sold in some of these kiosks.
The team first visited kiosks at the GEC campus in Farmagudi and later visited kiosks in the vicinity of the PES and GVM’s educational institutes.
During the drive, the FDA found that three kiosks were serving tea and bhaji and did not posses permission from the FDA. These kiosks were asked to stop serving the food items and to report to the FDA office at Panjim.
Some kiosks were found not displaying warning regarding the ill-effects of tobacco and cigarettes. These three kiosks were fined Rs 200 each by the Ponda Police team under Cigarette and other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA).
