Kosti Kalem Locals Protest Against Illegal Piggery, Demand Panchayat Action

Residents of Kosti Kalem staged a protest on Monday against the continued operation of a piggery in their area, alleging foul stench and water pollution.

The piggery was initially granted permission by the village panchayat and later renewed once. However, as the number of pigs grew, locals began facing severe health and environmental issues, prompting widespread objections.

Following public pressure, the panchayat revoked the licence, but the piggery has continued functioning in violation of the order. Villagers had demanded an official inspection, which was scheduled for today but was abruptly cancelled by the panchayat, triggering fresh anger.

Agitated locals gheraoed the panchayat secretary, compelling him to visit the site along with the sarpanch. After the inspection, the sarpanch assured residents that strict action would be taken against the illegal piggery.
