Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will connect state’s apex medical hospital to the rural villages through their bus service.
KTCL will be launching three new bus services from Friday onwards providing an express service to the people from Patradevi, Pernem and Assnora.
The rural villages at the state’s boarder like Keri (Pernem), Banda (Patradevi) and Ghotgewadi (Asnora) will be connected to the Goa Medical College through KTCL bus service, which will begin from 7am in the morning.
The three new KTCL routes include: Banda-Panjim- Bambolim, Ghtgewadi-Panjim, Bambolim and Keri- Panjim- Bambolim.
KTCL official said that the main idea behind starting these routes was to provide a smooth public transport to the people, based far away from the apex hospital.
“People situated in these areas are basically poor and several patients from these areas visit GMC for medical treatment. In order to reach GMC, people have to exchange two buses. Hence we thought to make this transport little feasible,” the official said.
The people living in villages bordering the state were often subjected inconvenience to reach GMC due to poor public transport system. The introduction of KTCL bus service will give them a respite.
Official confirmed that the buses, which will run on these routes, where lying idle with the department. “Rather the opting new buses we thought to utilize the old ones,” he said.
The department is also planning to come up with more buses along the Bambolim route by January 2011.
Apart form this; the KTCL is also working on a plan to provide a ring service within Panjim-Bambolim route.
KTCL has a fleet of 392 buses, with more then 150 buses providing shuttle, express and normal service to the commuters along Panjim-Margao and Panjim-Vasco route via Bambolim.
