PANJIM: Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) has
decided to reply to the Women Commission of Goa that displaying advertisements of
Condoms on their buses is not illegal whereas such adds are promoted by State
as well as Centre government. However, the coproration has decided to withdraw
advertisments from the school buses.
KTCL General Manager Sanjay Ghat said that Women
Commission has passed an unilateral order hearing one side whereas KTCL has not
given a chance to put their say before them.
“We will be filing our reply to the commission through
our legal counsel as we are not in any of the illegal business. Such
advertisements are not only displayed on our buses but are also displayed and
shown through other mode of publicity,” Ghate said.
Taking offence to the manner in which condom
commercials have been displayed on buses run by the KTCL, Goa’s single largest
public transport, the Goa State Commission for Women had issued notices to the
corporation to withdraw the advertisement with immediate effect.
However, Ghat said that the Corporation has decided
not to withdraw it but place the side of KTCL before the Women Commission.
He said that Commission should dealt with the company
who have come with the advertisements not the single corporation who is
displaying it on buses as a part of the business.
“We are within our legal guidelines of advertisements
condition, it is not correct to blame corporation. These advertisements are
approved by the screening authorities of the country and then only we are
accepting it verifying the certificates,” Ghate mentioned.
Right wing women organisation has petitioned Women
Commission of Goa stating advertising campaign in public places objectifying
the feminine gender and demanded to remove it from the buses owned by KTCL.
However, senior officer in KTCL has informed that the
directions are issued to remove the advertisements from the school buses which
are operating in the state at various schools.
