PANJIM: The Directorate of Archives and Archaeology is in process of developing Heritage Circuit at Kudne village in Bicholim that is known for housing some of the archaeological important sites such as Jain Temple, ruins of Surya Temple and other monuments.
Assistant Superintending Archeologist Dr Varad Sabnis informed Herald that the aim of Heritage Circuit is to integrate all the archaeologically important sites that will help in conservation and protection along with tourism attraction. He said that Kudne has a Jain Temple, ruins of Surya Temple, ancient caves, ruins of Jain community settlement and other monuments.

“We will initiate process of tendering the work post elections,” informed Sabnis.
The site of Jain Temple located at ‘Gujirwado’, it was one of the trade centers since the early medieval period. This temple was cleared from the debris in 1986. An image of Tirthankara was found here. In the vicinity of this temple, there are eight memorial shrines locally known as “thadgi” belonging to the same period on a small hillock.
Ruins of a Surya Temple can also be seen in front of this temple at a close distance.
Meanwhile, the restoration and beautification of Saptkoteshwar Temple at Narve is nearing completion. “In next two-three months, the work will be completed and the temple will be thrown open for public,” said Sabnis.
In 2018, the temple completed 350 years of its renovation by Maratha warrior King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and on that occasion, the government undertook restoration and beautification of the Shiva Temple.
