Labour Smart Cards launched

PANJIM: The State government on Monday launched the new Labour Smart Cards for the benefit of workers employed in the private sector.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant launched the initiative in the presence of Labour Minister Jennifer Monserrate, Employment and Labour Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Labour and Employment Commissioner Raju Gawas.

Sawant hailed the Labour Department for their efforts in making this plan a reality as he felt it’s a much-needed step that will simplify the existing processes and bridge the gap in the employment sector.

He pointed out that the card will help all the workers to avail various schemes under Labour Welfare that is implemented by the Labour Department.

He appealed to the workers to apply and get their smart cards at the earliest.

Expressing her happiness about the launch and what it means, Labour Minister Monserrate appealed to all employers in Goa to register their employees under the Goa Employment and Retirement Benefit Act 2001.

“Till date, we have gathered data from over 493 companies and 15,527 employees,” she said.

“This initiative is a significant step towards ensuring the security and welfare of workers across Goa. Details of employers and employees will be stored in the smart card, which can now be updated to reflect changes in job,” she added.
