Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Revenue Francis D’Souza told the Legislative Assembly that the Act came into force on January 1, 2014 and it is partially implemented in the State. “All the new proposals are kept on hold till finalization of Rules under the said Act,” he said.
There are 42 projects on hold in North Goa which include land acquisition for setting up an Industrial Estate at Carambolim and another in Sirsaim and land acquisition for the construction of bridge from Amona to Virdi.
In South Goa, 44 projects are on hold with major ones being land acquisition for augmentation of water to Velim constituency, the coastal belt of Navelim constituency and additional land for the new South Goa district hospital. There are another 18 projects proposed by the departments concerned but not yet submitted to the government.
“Proposal returned back to the acquiring department to resubmit as per “The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013” which has come in to effect from 01/01/2014,” the Minister informed the House.
The question was tabled by unattached St Cruz MLA Atanasio Monserrate who sought to know the status of Central Land Acquisition Act and its implementation in Goa.
