Law banning drinking in public

PANJIM: Following the attack on police by youth under the influence of alcohol, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that the law, banning drinking in public places, especially at night, would be made more stringent.
Police were attacked by group of youth in Cuncolim during wee hours of Tuesday, when on patrolling duty they came across these boys, who were creating a ruckus on the highway. Two persons have been arrested, while seven others are on the run.
Speaking to media persons on the incident, the Chief Minister confirmed that all the youth were under the influence of alcohol. “Attack on police will not be tolerated. Will ensure that strict action is initiated and rest all are arrested,” he said.
Sawant reminded that there already exists a law banning drinking in public places. “But we now need to keep check on late night public drinking. The law needs to be more stringent. Also effective implementation has to be seen,” he said.
