The Law Commission has invited views, suggestions and proposals from the
public as well associations of tenants, mundkars, within thirty days from the
publication of this release.
Government of Goa has set up a three member Law Commission under the
Chairmanship of Ramakant Khalap, Former Union Minister of Law and two other
members who are practicing lawyers Cleafato Coutinho and Mario Pinto
Almeida.
As per the terms of reference, the Law Commission is required to study, inter
alia, the existing legislations in force in Goa and to propose suitable changes
and modifications with a view to coordinate, harmonize, simplify and to remove
anomalies, ambiguities, inequalities, etc in the existing laws.
The Commission has decided to study in the first instance, laws relating to
agricultural tenancy, mundkars, land revenues, rent control, residential
apartments, as well as the Bill relating to successions and special notaries now
before the Legislative Assembly.
