PANJIM: A lawyer has moved the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) over the weak response of the emergency care services in attending to late Advocate Satish Sonak.
In his petition to GHRC, Adv Aires Rodrigues pointed out that on April 7 at Patto, late Advocate Satish Sonak, after suffering a heart attack waited for the 108 ambulance for nearly 45 minutes.
“If GHRC is able to stimulate the medical emergency systems in the State it would be a great tribute to the departed soul of late Sonak, who died of cardiac arrest last week and the petition is a fall out of it,” Rodrigues said.
In his petition, Rodrigues stated that the ambulance was not equipped with the required lifesaving devices, which could have helped revive and save Sonak’s life.
Stating that the Patto Plaza was a hub, housing government offices and businesses, Rodrigues sought that a well-equipped ambulance be stationed there round-the- clock to attend to emergencies.
Rodrigues has also demanded that the Chief Secretary, Director of Health Services and the Dean of Goa Medical College be directed to explain what steps they plan to take to ensure that prompt and proper emergency services are henceforth provided diligently to save lives.
Rodrigues also wrote to GHRC volunteering his services free as a lawyer pro bono in matters that were filed by the late Sonak and are pending before the Commission.
