Lawyers not willing to move to Patto venue

PANJIM: As many as 200 advocates have decided to challenge the north district court’s order directing the lower courts to shift to Patto by August 10.

The aggrieved lawyers held a meeting to take this decision citing various difficulties to operate from ‘Spaces’ building at Patto Plaza.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, the lawyers demanded that government begin construction on the Merces court complex, which has been pending since 2009 when the then Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Swantanter Kumar had laid the foundation stone.  “Many lawyers move from the judicial magistrate first class to the district & sessions court, which is presently in the same building. Shifting one part of the court to Patto and the rest in the present building will be chaotic. Moreover, parking is a major issue at Patto Plaza,” said a lawyer.
The lawyers have also decided to hold a general body meeting on Tuesday to decide the further line of action.
