Anthony Vaz was elected vice-chairperson by defeating BJP-supported Roopa Gaonkar by 9-5 vote margin.

Presiding officer John Fernandes was assisted by Vivolet Gomes.

Today’s election was attended by Alemao supporters in large number.

Addressing media persons, Laxman Naik said his priority would be to provide a pro-active administration.

“With help of my mentor Yuri and Joaquim Alemao I will provide a corruption-free administration to Cuncolim residents. I have served the people as councillor for a long time, today the same people have given me the opportunity to work as the chairperson and I will fulfil the trust of Cuncolkars. My aim is to make the municipal administration people-oriented,” he said. Naik said he would use the Citizen’s Charter to deliver several certificates to the residents. However, he said this would be possible only if the citizens attach the required documents with the application.
