According to forest officials, the wild cat was caught in a trap laid by someone to catch wild animals which were creating nuisance in the area.
The leopard sustained injuries due to the trap and in the process, attacked Philip Vaz from Bomdamoll. Vaz was later admitted at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Curchorem, while the leopard was rescued by forest officials.
Vaz’s wife, who was present in the PHC, told Herald that her husband was going towards the hillock and did not notice the trapped and injured animal.
Dr Seema Fondekar from the PHC informed Herald that Fernandes was administered first aid and received a few stitches on his wounds.
The leopard was later taken to the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary.
