VASCO: The Forest Department on Monday caught a female leopard at Spring Beach inside the naval area at Bogmalo.
According to residents from Dabolim and Chicolna-Bogmalo, the female leopard along with her two cubs had created terror in the area since the last few days. They said during the last few days, the leopard used to hunt dogs and other domestic animals.
“We used to live in fear as the wild cats used to prowl in our area in the evenings and attack domestic animals. We had informed the Forest Department who laid a trap,” said a resident.
“After laying the trap, the forest officials could trap one of the wild cats at Spring Beach inside the naval area,” informed the resident.
The residents further informed that the Forest Department has laid three more traps at various locations at the Spring Beach and Chicolna-Bogmalo to catch the other two wild cats, which prowl freely in the area.
The residents alleged that ever since the builders destroyed the habitat of the wild animals, they started prowling in the residential areas and have put the lives of the locals and their domestic animals into jeopardy.
