The sight of a leopard devouring a monkey on a tree at Naqualim-Chicalim on Wednesday evening caused panic among residents.
The incident took place at about 5 pm when locals were startled to notice a leopard consuming its prey. They alerted the forest department, Vasco police and fire department of the incident, but the forest department reached the site only three hours later.
The sight of a leopard close to houses has caused considerable fear among residents, who recall sighting a similar leopard at Zorint a few days ago.
Locals suspect that the change of demography due to rampant cutting of trees by the builder lobby may have forced wild animals to stray into densely populated areas.
