Liquor confiscated at Polem, car seized

POINGUINIM: Canacona excise officials intercepted a Karnataka car bound for Karwar and confiscated 
liquor worth Rs 14,000 at the Polem check post on Friday night.
According to Excise sources, the car (KA-30 M-6229) was intercepted for routine check at Polem 
check post by Excise Sub-Inspector Rohit Dessai and other excise staff at about 8.20 pm.
Something unusual about the car, the excise staff inspected the vehicle and found 497 bottles (90ml) of 
Honey Guide Brandy and 478 bottles (180 ml) of Honey Blend Brandy, totally worth Rs.14,000, 
concealed in the speaker box and also in the spare tyre in the car.
Excise officials took the car and the liquor bottles under their custody at the Polem check border. 
However, the car driver managed to flee from the site while the excise sleuths were busy accounting the 
confiscated items.
According to Canacona Excise Inspector Shamba Naik, the Karnataka RTO has been approached to 
trace the owner of the seized car, while further official inquiries will be conducted to find the culprits in 
the incident..
