MARGAO: In a significant development with regard to the demolition of Little Flower Church at New Delhi, on behalf of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Churchill Alemao a writ petition has been filed in the High Court of Delhi by Raju D’Souza challenging the whole procedure of church demolition.
In the petition, the Government of Delhi, besides Block Development Officer, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and Delhi Development Authority has been made the parties. The notices pertaining to the same to all the concerned authorities are expected to be served in the next couple of days to come.
Addressing the media, Churchill in the presence of TMC Fatorda candidate Adv Seoula Vas and Raju informed about the petition, in which the petitioner has prayed to pass an order for allocating the area similar to that of the premises which was illegally demolished by the respondents, or to an order for rebuilding the church at the expenses of the respondents, and to pass such other and further orders as court may deem fit and proper in the facts, and circumstances of the case.
Churchill has alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has fooled Goans by claiming he was unaware about the orders to demolish the church.
“As per the Constitution no one has a right to obstruct any community to practice his or her religion. Kejriwal was fully aware about the demolition orders, but he has shown total ignorance when questioned by the Goan media,” he stated.
Petitioner Raju D’Souza, said that Churchill approached him and expressed concern pertaining to the church demolition at Delhi.
“After deliberating over the issue writ petition has been filed in these regards before the Delhi High Court, wherein we have shown with the evidence that this was a deliberate attempt with the involvement of Delhi government to demolish the church, despite the facts that there were other illegal religious structures in the locality,” he said.
