MAPUSA: Calangtue Michael Lobo on Thursday denied that the BJP government had any role in proposing that 21 Major District Roads (MDRs) in Goa be declared as National Highways saying, “Some principal engineer might have sent this proposal to the Central government for getting Central funds for hot-mixing them.”
He said that most of “our people are running shops and businesses along the roads, as such, we don’t want the 21 major district roads declared as national highway. I am sure that all the MLAs will oppose declaring MDRs as national highways,” Lobo said, addressing a press conference in Calangute.
He said whoever forms the next government, they will have to take a decision on the National Highway issue and write to the Central government opposing declaration of 21 MDRs as National Highways.
“We don’t require money to hot-mix the roads, nor we want any road to be converted into national highway,” he added.
