VASCO: Five persons from the containment zone including one child were shifted to the Chicalim sub district hospital after waiting for almost three hours for medical attention.

The persons were suffering from fever and the situation became tense after residents from the containment zone gathered in large numbers on Friday morning and complained about the non-availability of an ambulance at the site. Locals also complained of receiving step-motherly treatment from the authorities.
Speaking to Herald over the phone, one resident named Chandru Shirur confirmed that the containment area witnessed tense moments as locals were dismayed over the delay in helping out the people who were suffering from fever from morning. “I heard that the child was even vomiting and was in a bad condition but despite this, they had to wait for so long. We even tried calling a few authorities but all were passing the buck. It is important that during this time, we are supported by the government authorities in providing us with essential items, medical facilities and other emergency services as our movement is restricted to the containment zone,” he added.
Sources stated that a private vehicle was arranged to carry the five persons to the Chicalim sub-district hospital with a police escort vehicle. The persons underwent medical treatment and were later admitted there.
Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, councillors Fredrick Henriques and Yatin Kamurlekar also assisted the authorities to manage the situation.
Kamurlkar said that Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida requested the Deputy Collector to visit the area along with the MMC Chief Officer to attend to the people’s grievances.
“The mamlatdar office also started free distribution of essential commodities after the Vasco MLA instructed them to immediately start the distribution of essential items to the households,” Kamurlkar added.
Almeida added that he spoke to the Health Minister Viswhajit Rane and requested him to station an ambulance 24/7 in the containment zone in case of any emergency situation.
