PORVORIM: Amidst huge opposition to app-based taxi service GoaMiles, Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar has said that the government has been receiving positive feedback about the service.
In a written reply, he said that tourists and general public have given an overwhelming response to the GTDC backed taxi app. “GoaMiles has revolutionized the transportation system for all stakeholders, which includes taxi drivers, tourist and locals, in the state of Goa,” he said to a question tabled by Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco.
He added that the strength of taxi fleet has witnessed a substantial rise and that this itself provides evidence that taxi drivers are eager to get on board of the said app.
Despite traditional tourist taxi operators demanding for scrapping GoaMiles, the govt is adamant to continue it. On Tuesday, CM Sawant chaired a meeting attended by tourist taxi associations, which was organised by Minister MLA Michael Lobo. While the operators demanded that government roll back the project, Sawant said there was no question of scrapping ‘Goa Miles’ but a solution could be worked out between the warring factions by sitting across the table.
