CUNCOLIM: The Logistic Park of the Konkan Railways at Balli railway station has become a headache for locals. The Logistic Park was set up in cooperation with Container Corporation of India.
After the park was set up, the number of heavy vehicles and loaded container trucks playing on NH66 has increased many-fold, leading to traffic congestion from Dandewado to Balli.
Long queues of vehicles during peak hours are a regular feature from Panzorconi to Balli; the road between Ballimath and Cuncolim bazaar remains congested throughout the day.
Besides, huge containers trucks are also seen parked on the roadside at Panzorconi close to petrol pump on NH66, turning the place into a truck terminus and increasing the risk of accidents.
However, neither the RTOs nor the traffic police are ready to take action against this illegal parking; and the local municipal council is not aware of the illegal parking. Cuncolim municipal authorities told Herald that the Council has not granted permission for any such type of truck terminus.
Meanwhile, some locals claim that some people are collecting parking fees from the truck drivers.
