PANJIM: Goa Lokayukta Justice P K Misra has begun scrutinizing the complaint filed by Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte in connection with the multi-crore beach cleaning scam that has named Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar as one of the accused.
“The process to scrutinize various documents produced by Khaunte as a part of the complaint has begun. The documents submitted by him are voluminous and it will take time before their scrutiny is done,” a senior official said. “Once the documents are scrutinized, the further process will begin including issuing of notices to the concerned parties,” official added.
Khaunte in his complaint had alleged that the scam involving the Tourism Minister had caused a loss of Rs 14 crore. Parulekar had rubbished the charges welcoming an investigation in it.
The complaint is based on information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act and replies submitted by the government in the Legislative Assembly. He has also named officials of the ranks of director and deputy director in the Tourism Department in the plaint.
The contracts for cleaning the beaches have been awarded to Bhumika Cleantech Services and Ram Cleaners and Developers, who are also named as accused.
The MLA has demanded that the contracts be terminated immediately so as to prevent further drain on the exchequer, and the money already paid to the contractors for ‘the work not done’ be recovered.
