PANJIM: Goa Lokayukta Justice (retd) P K Misra has asked public functionaries, including Ministers and MLAs, to file their statements of assets and liabilities for the financial years 2012 to 16 by June 30. This is a final opportunity to the public functionaries who have not filed their financial statements before the ombudsman for the last three years.
The Lokayukta has warned of consequences as per the Goa Lokayukta Act 2011, if they fail to submit the required details within the stipulated time frame. For the financial year 2014-15, only 28 MLAs had filed the statements.
The move is an attempt to bring transparency in bureaucratic functioning and reduce avenues for corruption.
In a notice issued on Monday the Lokayukta said, “Those who have not submitted their statement of Assets and Liabilities in the prescribed Performa for the Financial Years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 should file the same before June 30, 2016.”
The details should be filed as defined in Section 2(q) of the Goa Lokayukta Act, 2011 in the prescribed format in Form III, the notice reads. “The non-compliance with the above requirement shall attribute the consequences provided in sub-section (2) of section 21 of the Goa Lokayukta Act 2011,” it adds.
A senior official attached to the Lokayukta said that in the last financial year only 28 out of 40 MLAs filed their statements. “In the absence of Lokayukta, the MLAs also showed no seriousness towards this office,” official said.
