CANACONA, FEB 27
Residents of Loliem-Polem Panchayat came out strongly opposing the government notified RP-2021 at a special gram sabha on Sunday.
Incidentally, experts in the village pointed out to a unique classification of three areas sought to be developed in the notified Regional Plan 2021 marked as eco-tourism zones.
All these three sites are known to have been purchased by non-Goan entities and accordingly members cried foul over the alleged favouritism in marking these zones as eco-tourism, when the panchayat had never asked for the same.
The members hotly debated on the issue as these sites were never marked for eco-tourism zone by villagers sent draft RP-2021 through the village panchayat, Loliem-Polem.
Villagers were also surprised to find that a few roadside areas where locals have residential structures and considering locals interests panchayat has recommended for notifying these areas as settlement zones is out-rightly rejected by the government.
Over 150 people attended Sunday’s special gram sabha, which was chaired by Sarpanch Pranali Prabhugaonkar, and attended among others by members of village appointed local RP-2021 committee to finalize the draft that also includes Mohan Lolienkar and Subhash Pagui. Most of the panchas including Deputy Sarpanch Elvis Fernandes were also present.
In the memorandum submitted to the sarpanch, copy of which is also marked to TCP, villagers highlighted several pros and cons of the government notified Loliem-Polem village RP-2021 and have strongly demanded for re-notification of the village regional plan giving consideration to certain demands.
