POINGUINIM: Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Bushan Prabhugaonkar was reportedly taken to task by former sarpanch Mohandas Lolayekar and other members at the Loliem-Polem gram sabha on Sunday.
The panchayat secretary while reading the expenditure statement stated that the panchayat got a grant of Rs 5 lakh from the government under ST fund and about Rs 1.5 lakh was utilized from this fund to construct a retaining wall at Dapot-Maxem.
When former Loliem-Polem sarpanch Mohandas Lolayekar asked the secretary whether funds allotted for the panchayat can be used for other purpose, the secretary was unable to reply and Sarpanch Bushan Prabhugaonkar, who came to his rescue, was also unable to give satisfactory reply.
The sarpanch said the Director of Panchayat had verbally told him to divert the funds to other purpose. Lolayekar then asked for a written statement that he was told to do so to take appropriate action against the concerned for diverting funds meant for one purpose to other place where there were no ST beneficiaries.
The sarpanch, who saw that he was also cornered reportedly apologized.
