CANACONA: A Mahindra mini pickup carrying bananas from Shirsi to Mapusa went off the road while avoiding a truck coming from the opposite direction. The pickup driven by Rohit Naik went off the road near Bhumipurush Prassanna temple at Gulem in Canacona in the early hours of Saturday. Both the driver and cleaner escaped with minor abrasions on their body.
Anil Bhagat a senior citizen who was on his morning walk said, “I saw a truck overtaking a car coming towards Canacona. The truck was on the wrong side and the mini pickup had no option but to take his vehicle out on the shoulder which has about half foot level difference from the carpet of the road. As the pickup steered out of control it brushed against a mango tree on the shoulder of the road and went about 6 Mts below. If it had to hit the truck then it would have been curtains for both driver and cleaner of the pick”.
