MARGAO: The staff of The Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank Limited on Wednesday staged a protest in Margao over the non-payment of their salaries for the last two months.
They demanded withdrawal of the circular issued by the bank about the sick leave and privilege leave of the staff members for the year 2021 would be calculated proportionately, up to the date July 29, 2021.
Speaking to the media persons, Prasanna Utagi, president of the Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank Officers’ Association and The Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank Employees’ Union expressed frustration over the issue, as they had already submitted a memorandum to the government-appointed liquidator S V Naik earlier.
The Association demanded that the salary of the staff be paid without any further delay before Ganesh Chaturthi, as on Wednesday all the staff members attended the office but observed ‘Mauna-Vrata’.
Prasanna said, “Our demand is that the salary for July and August 2021 be paid as per the provisions made in the memorandum of settlement dated July 29, 2010, at the earliest.”
“We strongly object to the position taken by the Managing Director and demand its immediate withdrawal. The liquidator has just replaced the board of directors of the bank with the task of liquidation. There is a long way to go. As the bank still continues to be a legal entity, the employer-employee relationship continues to bind the management of the bank,” he stated.
