BICHOLIM: The Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar on Saturday instructed the electricity department to immediately shift the electric wires passing overhead the government primary school at Pratapnagar Harvalem in Sanquelim, since the same was posing danger to students.
The minister issued the instruction during his visit to Sanquelim to discuss the problems of the constituency on Saturday. Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant who accompanied the minister brought to his notice the danger posed by the electric wires passing overhead the school and requested the minister to solve the same. The issue was also highlighted by Herald.
A local panch complained to the minister that, in the past, he had requested the department to shift the 11 KV line from the area but no one paid any heed to his request. Following the complaint, the minister immediately instructed the engineers to look into the matter and shift the wires.
“We have instructed the engineers to shift the wires after taking the estimate of the entire process. It would take 12 poles to shift the wires and it would be done on priority,” Madkaikar said.
Acknowledging that the issue was highlighted by Herald, Dr Sawant said, “In next six months the problem will be totally resolved and we have instructed the department to shift the lines which are presently passing over the primary school posing danger to the lives of the students.”
