PANJIM: There will be a preview of the mahagathbandan as the three Independent opposition MLAs have aligned with a group of Congress MLAs to ‘collectively expose the misdeeds of BJP led government’ during the monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly, beginning July 25.
Goa Forward mentors and Independent MLAs Vijai Sardesai (Fatorda), Rohan Khaunte (Porvorim) and Naresh Sawal (Bicholim) have together asked nearly 810 questions for the 15-day session, most clubbed with Congress MLAs Digambar Kamat, Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco and unattached MLA Atanasio Monserrate, to expose the failures of the government.
“We, along with Congress MLAs, have adopted a strategy to corner the BJP government on the floor of the House,” Sardessai, flanked by Sawal and Khaunte, told media persons on Friday. “The opposition benches will have a floor coordination to ensure that the government is exposed over its failures and constant
U-turns since 2012,” he added.
Sardesai said that during the last four-and-a-half years, three fourth of the total bench strength was of the ruling side and the opposition was just one fourth. “Despite this we proved to be a formidable opposition. This will be the last opportunity for us to expose the current government as it is presumed that there would not be any more sessions before the elections,” the legislator said.
The Fatorda legislator said he would be placing a private member resolution seeking 80 percent reservation in jobs in the private sector. His bill, which he had placed during last session, could not sail through with the ruling benches blocking it.
Stating that scams are increasing, Khaunte said, “The casino industry is promoted in the name of revenue generation and investment. But we fail to understand, how much investment or revenue this culture has brought in.”
The legislators have also unanimously opposed the appointment of an advisory committee to revisit the medium of instruction issue and have called it eyewash.
