MAPUSA: Calangute police have arrested one Mahesh Hanumant Bhondwe (25), a native of Maharashtra, for illegally carrying a revolver of 32 bore and seven cartridges.
PI Jivba Dalvi said that he received a call about a fight wherein the accused pulled out the revolver. However, by the time the police could reach the crime scene, the accused had fled with his vehicle (MH 20CU 0577).
Immediately, a police team was despatched in hot pursuit of the accused which nabbed the accused near Dolphin Circle, Calangute. On searching the accused, police recovered a revolver of 32 bore and seven live cartridges. Though the accused produced a licence for the weapon, on scrutiny of the same, the police found that the licence is valid only within Maharashtra state.
Police have booked the accused under Section 30 of The Arm’s Act 1959.
Police said that the accused is the sarpanch of Bajajnagar, Wadhaon panchayat. PSI Rushikesh Patil is investigating the case.
