PANJIM: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has taken into custody Mahesh Desai, Assistant Commissioner of Customs & Central Excise Goa for alleged illegal transportation of foreign cigarettes, nearly two months after he was granted bail in connection with the same offence.
Sources said that soon after he was remanded to judicial custody in Colvale Central Jail, Desai complained of uneasiness and was rushed to the Asilo Hospital at Mapusa on Tuesday. “It is a preventive arrest and he was remanded to judicial custody. On being shifted to Colvale Jail he complained of health issues and was taken to Asilo hospital. He is presently undergoing treatment,” the source told Herald.
Desai was detained in October last year under Section 135 of the Customs Act and was granted bail.
