PONDA: Ponda Municipal Council in its Thursday meeting discussed major development for the town, including installations of 127 CCTV cameras, commercial project in place of Shastri hall, national standard football stadium, multilevel parking, gymkhana, play courts, etc.
PMC Chairperson Radhika Nayak said that the council has decided not to get involved in any controversy and decided to focus on major development works in the interest of the people of Ponda.
Nayak said Goa State Urban Development Agency has agreed to the PMC proposal to construct a national standard football stadium on the land acquired by it near PMC building. GSUDA also agreed to the construction of a multilevel parking facility on around 16000 sq mts of land acquired by PMC. She said GSUDA has asked to complete formalities including drawing up of plans. She also informed that the PMC has decided to construct an under pass near St Ann’s Church road.
The PMC has also decided to demolish the dilapidated Shastri hall building through the PWD and to construct a commercial project at the site.
Besides this the council has proposed to install around 127 CCTV cameras in the municipality area, through Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and work of this will begin in two months and will be completed by December. Further through the MPLAD Scheme PMC proposes to construct a playground at Khadpabandh. The PMC has also decided to construct gymkhana with several rooms to facilitate players with play court for different sports which will also house a primary health centre. It was also decided to beautify the Dada Vaidya Chowk at Ponda. The council also resolved to identify and develop open spaces for the benefit of citizens to provide them various facilities.
