Margao: The state election commissioner M Modaddsir in an order passed on Monday, disqualified former Majorda –Utorda-Calata Sarpanch Georgina Mascarenhas from being a panch member of the village panchayt.

The order was passed in open court under section 10 (f) of the Goa Pancahyat Raj Act, 1994.
It maybe recalled that The high court of Bombay at Goa recently remanded the case of disqualification of the Majorda-Utorda-Calata sarpanch Georgina Mascarenhas back to the Goa state election commissioner (GSEC) for a fresh decision in accordance with law. Mascarenhas had challenged the order passed by the election commissioner on June 11, 2015 disqualifying her as a panch, before the high court.
A resident of Utorda-Majorda, Aleixo Arnolfo Pereira had approached the GSEC seeking Mascarenhas’ disqualification by stating that she had misused her position as deputy sarpanch to hire the sound system from her husband, Isidorio (alias Eggie), who is involved in this business.
Pereira had claimed that during the gram sabha meeting on April 12, he had raised the issue about hiring of mike/sound system for this meeting from Isidorio.
According to Pereira, Isidorio had supplied the sound system to the panchayat on November 12, 2014, July 31, 2014 and March 3. From August 2014, Mascarenhas using her undue influence of her official position as deputy sarpanch managed to hire the sound system from her husband, Isidorio.
Pereira further pointed out that the marriage between the petitioner and Isidorio was solemnized and it is ) governed by the provisions of the Portuguese Civil Code and she had an equal share in the income/profits made by her husband from his business.
