PONDA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday called upon the farmers to make best use of government schemes to make Goa an Atmanirbhar (self-sufficient) State.

He was speaking during the inauguration of the second phase of Agri Bazaar building of the Goa Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing Board (GAPLMB) on occasion of Dussehra at Ponda Market Sub Yard, Curti.
Sawant said “Six decades have passed and Goa is dependent on other States for life essential commodities including fruits and milk.”
He said, “From November onwards government officials will visit every panchayat and inform them about various schemes launched by Goa Government under name Atmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa”. Under this, officials will help them in availing government schemes for pisciculture, agriculture, horticulture, fishing, dairy including schemes for every section of society.”
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 80 schemes that will benefit the industrialists, fishermen, agriculture and dairy sector. Earlier, Krishi Cards were given only for agriculture but now the same will be given for fishing and dairy milk activities and the farmers should reap the benefit.
He urged the GAPLMB to organise weekly market at Agri Bazaar premises so that farmers from all over Goa can benefit.
He said Agri Bazaar complex at Ponda is one of the best complexes in the country providing various facilities to farmers who will contribute to achieve the goal of self reliance.
He said, “After the New Agricultural Bill, there would be no space for middlemen as only the farmers would benefit from their produce.”
Sawant said the infrastructure created must be used by the public and informed that he came across a tourism complex at Keri-Sattari spread across 30,000 square metres lying idle without inauguration for the past many years.
Union Minister Shripad Naik, Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar, Cooperation Minister Govind Gaude, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, GAPLMB chairman Prakash Velip, Curti Khandepar sarpanch Shravani Gaude, Bethora sarpanch Durgaprasad Vaidya and Board members were present.
