CORTALIM: An alert female passenger and a group of passengers nabbed a passenger in a KTC bus, after he was caught red-handed taking snaps of female passengers while travelling from Margao in a Panjim-bound bus. The man was later arrested in this connection.
Narrating the incident to Herald, a member of the Pilar Fathers, who was an eye-witness to the incident, stated that the female passenger had boarded the bus at the Carmel College bus stop in Nuvem some time at about 2.15 pm.
“She took her seat in the middle row and some time later, the accused, Shardniu Mohanti, boarded the bus somewhere between the Verna church bus stop and Nagoa. As the bus was proceeding, the man stood with phone directed at the woman,” said the Pilar Society member, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“The woman then sensed that he was clicking her photos and she raised an alarm. Some fellow passengers went to her help and confronted Mohanti. After some resistance, he surrendered his cell phone. The passengers were shocked to find out that he had not only clicked photos of one female passenger, but of some other female college students who were also in the bus,” he added.
The conductor and the bus driver then stopped the bus at the Agasaim police station as it was the nearest police station. The woman was then accompanied by the conductor and a few other passengers to the police station to register the complaint.
The police later arrested Mohanti in this connection.
