PANJIM: A 45-year-old man committed suicide by jumping off the old Mandovi bridge on Friday.
According to the Panjim police, upon receiving information Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the body which was found near the Panaji jetty.

“The body is yet to be identified. It has been preserved. Post-mortem will be conducted on Saturday,” Panjim Police Station PI Nikhil Palekar told O Heraldo.
This is the third incident of a man committing suicide by jumping off the bridge.
On November 20, 2023, a 27-year-old man had jumped off the Mandovi Bridge. He was identified as Farooq Usman (27) and was employed with a washing centre.
In a similar incident, a 45-year-old Ranjit Keni from Panjim was rescued by the Coastal Police and the fire department after he leaped from the Mandovi Bridge on November 3, 2023.
However, despite their efforts, Keni was later pronounced dead at the Goa Medical College (GMC), where he had been transported for medical care.
