MARGAO: A man was found dead near the Yellamma temple near the Margao railway station under suspicious circumstances, on Wednesday. The deceased was wearing saffron clothing.
On receiving information of the incident, police reached the spot and found lot of bleeding from his mouth and nose. The police have also found a stone near his head. It is suspected that he was killed using the stone.
The police said that the suspected murder may have occurred on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. The police are working to ascertain the identity of the deceased by contacting the railway station, hotels and lodges nearby. In this connection, Margao police have registered an offence of murder against unknown person.
Since there are no signs of the stone having used as a weapon to murder which has created confusion whether it is a natural death or a murder. The police however have started searching for clues and have begun checking CCTV footage of establishments nearby. The local intelligence bureau has also been roped in to help the investigation.
The Margao town police inspector, DySP and the SP were at the site after receiving the information.
SP Arvind Gawas said that the age of the person may be around 52 and that the cause of death would be ascertained only after the post mortem report is received.
