Man gets life imprisonment for killing wife

PANJIM, DEC 20 The Fast Track court on Saturday sentences Nazil alias Nasir Ahmad Bellari to life imprisonment on the charge of murdering his wife for dowry.

The  Fast  Track  court  on  Saturday  sentences Nazil  alias  Nasir Ahmad  Bellari  to  life  imprisonment  on the  charge  of  murdering  his  wife  for  dowry.
If  one recalls,  the  incident  took place  at  Taleigao in  2006.   Bellari  has    been  fined  Rs 5,000  and  in default  a  further  sentence  of  imprisonment  for  6  months.  The  court  has  further  sentenced  Bellari  with  rigorous  imprisonment  for  3  years  and  a  fine of  Rs  3,000.  Failure  to  pay  the  fine  will  result  in  an additional  sentence  period  of  6 months.
According  to the  prosecution,  Bellari  was  an alcoholic  and used  to  harass  his  wife  Shabana Bi    for money. The  other  alleged accused  in the  case  Saira Banu Bedagi  and  Asha  Bi  Bellari  have been acquitted  in the  case. The  Fast  Track  court  Judge  Vijaya Pol  convicted  the  accused  Nazil Bellari  on the  basis  of  the  dying declaration  of  his  wife  and  other  material  placed  as  evidence  during  the  hearings. The  prosecution  led  by  Melina  Pinto examined  28  witnesses.
